Finished

At least I finished this one - that was because each week was something I already do anyway so didn't learn anything new.  Now I can stop thinking about this stuff and do some work

Facebook

Been using this for a couple of years now - already have lots of Manukau Library staff as friends.  Only log on about once a month as I use facebook to keep in touch with old friends from when I was living in the UK. Our customers already know about Facebook, and Bebo, so no, they don't ask about it.

Music

downloaded a song from Amazon - just like I do from itunes.  Not something I'd do as I like the physical prescence of a cd to have as back up and so I can lend them if I so choose.  Once again, those who download music prbably already know about all this stuff and all we do if point them in the right direction.

Good reads

Been using Goodreads for a while now - found it useful to keep track of books for my Open Polytech course - but then I also use Google books for that.  Once again, if I am asked I will talk about the many sites people can use for their own reading lists, it's not something I would raise with them.  I don't use it from a library staff point of view, and probably never would.  Although we now have access to the internet from generic log ins it is still a major and I tend to show customers www.fantastic fiction.co.uk as it is useful to help with readers advisory stuff.  And the OPAC is good for that as well.  Once again, if people want to use it then they will - and the ones who would use it probably already know about it.

Twitter

Been using twitter for a long time now - follow all sorts of people, including Sue Bradford - I told her so yesterday when she was in the library - and of course Manukau Libraries, as well as the wonderful author who re-tweeted my review of her book "The Christmas Cookie Club".  I add a comment every now and then - unlike some people who tweet all the time from their phones!  I prefer speaking to people face to face, or actually speaking on the phone!, I know, a dying art!  The customers I deal with are fairly compter savvy and I don't talk about the maultitude of things available for them to waste time on - if they want to ask that's different, then I could pass on the little that I know.  I would sooner talk about books!

Zamzar

Too many annoying popups telling me I have won - and of course you have to take the time to read them - just in case..... Who knows, one day I just might ring the number.....yeah, right!
This is similar to other programmes I have been using for years to convert documents to pdf  format - no need for that anymore as I can scan them and hey presto! they are pdf documents!  Word 2007 (on our learn.nets) save as either .doc or .docx or even pdf.  I did hear one casual staff member showing a customer last week so some people will use it.

Web 2.0 version 2

I've re-registered my blog - since creating this and doing some of the last lot of exercises - got frustrated with not being able to access too much last time around and flagged the whole exercise. Since then I have run 2 blogs - one for work and one for my dancing group. Am now in the process of setting up one new blog to replace the old work one, to cover all the children's services I currently run on a regular basis.
